Michigan Democrat Mallory McMorrow announced on July 5, 2026, that she is suspending her campaign for the party’s nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by a Democratic senator. McMorrow's decision follows a poll released on June 16 by Steve Mitchell of Mitchell Research & Communications, which showed her support had dropped to 6%.
In a post on X, McMorrow expressed gratitude to her volunteers and donors, noting that her campaign was built without corporate PAC dollars. She did not immediately endorse any of her remaining rivals, including Democratic Michigan Representative Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed.
McMorrow gained national attention in 2022 after delivering a speech on the Michigan Senate floor criticizing Republicans for opposing child sex changes, abortions, and other social conservative policies. During that speech, she described herself as "a straight, white, Christian, married suburban mom" and called herself "the biggest threat to your hollow, hateful scheme."
The Michigan Republican Party responded to the Democratic primary developments by highlighting Republican Mike Rogers' focus on issues like housing affordability. In a statement, the party said, "Whoever survives the messy Democrat primary will be held accountable at the ballot box this November for turning their backs on Michigan’s working families — Mike Rogers will beat whoever emerges from their chaotic primary."
