Dongying No 1 Middle School, located in Dongying, Shandong province, has come under public scrutiny for distributing a form to newly admitted students in late June that requested extensive details about their parents. According to China Newsweek, the form asked for parents’ names, workplaces, job titles, and mobile numbers. Additionally, it required information about the family car, including its brand, license plate number, and purchase price. The school noted that this car information was intended solely for internal use.

The request for such detailed family wealth information triggered a backlash online after some internet users shared the form publicly. The controversy highlights growing concerns about privacy and the appropriateness of schools collecting personal financial data from students’ families.
