On July 3, deputies in Charles County, Maryland, arrested Sir Leander Evans Gamble, 57, following a reported assault involving a firearm at a property on Penjack Place in Waldorf.

Investigators said Gamble confronted three tenants renting a trailer on his property, physically assaulted them, and then retrieved a handgun from his residence. He allegedly pointed the weapon at the victims—a woman, her 28-year-old son, and the son's girlfriend who was eight months pregnant—and threatened to harm them before deputies took him into custody.

Gamble was charged with aggravated assault and is being held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center.

During the investigation, Charles County Animal Control officers discovered an unusual group of animals on the property, including an alligator, a caiman, a snake, an emu, and six handguns. Officials determined the animals were kept in conditions that violated Maryland animal cruelty statutes and removed them from the premises.

The tenants also alleged that a dog named Carter died after Gamble failed to provide air conditioning in the trailer. The woman reported feeling traumatized and financially strained following the incident.

Jennifer L. Harris, chief of media services for the Charles County Government, confirmed the animal control findings in a statement to the media.
