On July 9, 2026, Florida's Palm Beach International Airport officially became Donald J. Trump International Airport following a law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis in March. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued guidance confirming the name change.
However, the airport's three-letter code, which passengers commonly use for ticketing and flight information, will not change immediately. Currently, the code is PBI, and it will remain so until August 18, 2026, when it will switch to DJT. During this 40-day period, the FAA locational identifier and the International Civil Aviation Organization will use DJT for pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation operations, while passengers will continue to see PBI.
Henry Harteveldt, an airline industry analyst at Atmosphere Research Group, explained that airlines have implemented "hard coding" in their reservation and passenger service systems to ensure passengers and baggage are routed correctly despite the dual codes. He noted, "Airlines have told me that, at least initially, people who use the PBI code on their websites to search for flights will be directed to flights from what will now be called DJT."
Flight attendants will reportedly have the option to say "welcome to West Palm Beach" instead of using the new airport name. The airport's frequently asked questions page acknowledged that the name change may be received differently by passengers but expressed gratitude for their support during the transition.
This renaming adds to the 12 airports across the United States named after presidents.
