Hong Kong actress Cecilia Yiu is making a return to the entertainment industry after 30 years away from acting. The 57-year-old, best known for her role in the 1989 wuxia drama Ode To Gallantry, announced at a press conference in Hong Kong on July 8 that she had signed with New World Entertainment, according to TVB Entertainment News.
Yiu made her acting debut in 1986 while still in secondary school after participating in TVB's Miss Television pageant. She rose to fame with Ode To Gallantry before retiring from acting in 1995. After years away from the spotlight, she revealed that she had long considered a comeback but lacked confidence until encouraged by her godbrother, the founder of New World Entertainment, and her manager.
At the event, Yiu expressed excitement about returning to the industry and described herself as a newcomer. She also addressed her past relationship with Hong Kong Cantopop star Aaron Kwok. When asked if she would be open to meeting or working with Kwok again, Yiu said she had no objections, noting their relationship ended many years ago and that she would not feel awkward collaborating professionally.
According to Hong Kong media reports, Yiu married a businessman after retiring in the 1990s.
