England captain Harry Kane has described Norway's Erling Haaland as "a machine" but emphasized that they are very different types of players ahead of their World Cup quarterfinal clash. Kane noted, "I know we’re both strikers, but we’re in almost two different positions."
Haaland has scored seven goals in his first four matches at a major tournament, including a double that eliminated Brazil, helping Norway reach the quarterfinals for the first time. Kane trails Haaland by just one goal in the tournament and has extended his overall World Cup tally to 14 goals.
Despite their impressive scoring, both trail Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe, who have each netted eight goals in the 2026 World Cup, in the race for the Golden Boot.
Norway coach Stale Solbakken highlighted the importance of the duel between the two forwards, saying, "I think it’s Norway versus England, but I don’t think it is a secret that Kane is the match winner number one for England and Haaland is the match winner number one for us."
Solbakken also reflected on the tournament's impact, stating, "We’ve had some great nights in this World Cup before, and it brings the country together."
The quarterfinal match is highly anticipated as both teams rely heavily on their star strikers to advance to the semifinals.
