Jayden Adams, a 25-year-old midfielder for South Africa and Mamelodi Sundowns, has died following his participation in the recent World Cup. Adams made three appearances for South Africa during the tournament, starting two group stage matches despite the death of his grandmother, Marianna, the day before a 1-1 draw with Czechia.

The South African Football Players Union (SAFPU) described Adams' passing as "an immeasurable loss" and expressed deep condolences to his family, teammates at Mamelodi Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC, and the national team Bafana Bafana. Before the World Cup, Adams contributed to Mamelodi Sundowns' victory in the CAF Champions League and dedicated his medal to his late Stellenbosch teammate Oshwin Andries, who died after being stabbed in 2023.

South Africa's Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, said he had reached out to Adams to offer condolences following his grandmother's death. FIFA President Gianni Infantino also offered his condolences via Instagram.

Adams was recognized for carrying the hopes of the nation at the FIFA World Cup with pride, courage, and distinction.
