Ukraine fired over 400 drones toward Moscow in a significant attack on the Russian capital, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Monday, July 20th, 2026. The drone onslaught lasted from late Sunday until early Monday local time, with most drones intercepted far from the city and 85 near Moscow.

Moscow regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that 10 people were wounded and several residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged. The attack ignited a fire at the Yuzhnye Vrata industrial park, about 30 kilometers south of Moscow, and a Russian news outlet reported a fire at an oil depot in Podolsk, roughly 20 kilometers south of the city.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian forces struck logistics facilities and an oil depot in the Moscow region. He also claimed that Kyiv's forces hit two vessels from Russia's so-called shadow fleet transporting sanctioned oil, along with four dry cargo ships in the Black Sea.

In a related incident, a drone struck a passenger bus in Shebekino, Russia's Belgorod region bordering Ukraine, killing five people—including four women and a boy—and injuring 23 others, according to the acting governor.

The attack came hours after Russia bombarded Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles, continuing a relentless cycle of tit-for-tat strikes. Military administration head Oleksandr Hanzha reported that a Russian strike on Pavlohrad in Ukraine's central Dnipropetrovsk region injured 13 people.

Ukraine's Sea Ports Authority said a cargo vessel flying the flag of Guinea Bissau was hit by Russian forces shortly after leaving the port of Odesa, killing 10 crew members, including five sailors from Syria. Eight people were rescued from the ship, which was carrying Ukrainian corn.

In May, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that air defenses downed 1,054 Ukrainian drones in a 24-hour period. Additionally, Russian forces have launched more ballistic missiles against Ukraine in July than Russia reportedly produces each month.
