George Clooney, the Hollywood actor known for the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise, and his family have evacuated their home in southeastern France after a nearby wildfire threatened the area, his agent confirmed on Thursday, July 31, 2026.

The Clooneys’ residence is near Brignoles, a town about 90 kilometres east of Marseille. Publicist Guido Gotz told the Associated Press that Clooney addressed a letter to Didier Bremond, the mayor of Brignoles, expressing uncertainty about whether their home would survive the fire. The letter, addressed “Dear Didier,” stated that Clooney and his wife Amal, a human rights lawyer, had “no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment.”

As they evacuate, the Clooneys assured the mayor that regardless of the outcome, “we’ll be part of making it whole.”

Local officials reported that the wildfire near Brignoles broke out on Wednesday afternoon and burned around 100 hectares (250 acres). This fire is smaller compared to a larger blaze that has affected the Bordeaux region in southwestern France.

Thousands of people evacuated in southwestern France due to a major wildfire have been gradually allowed to return home after authorities declared the fire contained. Officials noted that the situation is stable and the fire remains within its perimeter. Water-bombing helicopters continue to operate in the area following the lifting of evacuation orders.

The French government announced in December 2025 that the Clooneys, along with their twins Ella and Alexander, were granted French citizenship.
