A Las Vegas family is seeking to identify a mysterious stranger who woke them during a predawn house fire on July 5, 2026, in the Las Vegas Valley. The man reportedly pounded on their front door, yelled "Fire! Fire!", and grabbed a garden hose to help battle the flames before quietly leaving.
Homeowner Danna Shabtai told Fox News Digital that she had gone to bed after asking children across the street to stop setting off fireworks near her home on the night of July 4. The fire broke out shortly before 5 a.m. on July 5, and surveillance video shows flames engulfing the backyard.
Shabtai described how her sister grabbed the family's garden hose to fight the fire while she carried her 14-month-old son next door to alert neighbors. She recalled, "He pointed toward the back of the house, and I turned around and I could see the French doors to the backyard. I just saw orange — like a wall of orange."
The family credits the stranger's frantic warning with saving their lives and those of their neighbors. Despite their efforts, the man has not been identified, and the family hopes to thank him for his heroic actions. The fire is believed to have been caused by fireworks.
The family's backyard sustained extensive damage in the blaze.
