South Africa's rugby captain Siya Kolisi has been named in the 26-man squad for the upcoming test match against Argentina on August 8, likely representing his final chance to secure a place in the team. Kolisi returns from injury alongside teammates Lood de Jager, Eben Etzebeth, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, and Morne van den Berg for the warm-up international in Buenos Aires.

Following this, South Africa will host New Zealand in a four-test series later in August. Kolisi, 35, the first Black captain of the Springboks, has faced injury challenges that have opened opportunities for other players to vie for his position.

Veteran players de Jager (33) and Etzebeth (34), both two-time World Cup winners, have also battled injuries and, in Etzebeth's case, a lengthy suspension earlier this year due to an eye-gouging incident. The team has managed a series of injuries in the second row during the Nations Championship in July, with replacements like Ruan Nortje and Cobus Wiese making strong cases for regular selection.

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu's return is particularly timely, as he is expected to play a key role in South Africa's home matches against the All Blacks. He had suffered an ankle injury in May during the United Rugby Championship playoffs.

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus is resting several regular players after South Africa's successful southern hemisphere leg of the Nations Championship, where the team won home matches against England, Scotland, and Wales. Erasmus stated, "We tried to get the balance right between giving some guys who are returning from injury and who have not had too much game time in our last four matches a valuable run against Argentina, while at the same time managing the players who have played a lot of rugby this year."

He added that the players recovering from injuries have been training hard and are ready to face a tough test before the New Zealand series.
