The US State Department announced on July 31, 2026, that limited-edition passports featuring a portrait of former President Donald Trump will be made available nationwide. Previously, these special passports, which commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, were only accessible at the Washington DC passport office for in-person applicants.

Starting in August 2026, 27 passport agencies across the country will offer the "patriot passports," with more than 250,000 planned for issuance. Passport offices in Centennial, Colorado; Chicago; Dallas; Detroit; New Orleans; New York; and Stamford, Connecticut, will host one-day special events beginning August 8 to distribute the passports.

The commemorative passports feature Trump’s stern portrait on an inside page over a gold imprimatur of his signature. The cover design reverses the usual format, displaying "United States of America" in bold gold print at the top and "Passport" at the bottom. Trump is the first living president to be featured in a US travel document. Currently, US passports only depict the Mount Rushmore carving, which includes George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

This initiative is part of a broader trend of tributes to Trump, including his image on a gold-finished commemorative coin produced by the US Mint and efforts to place his signature on new US paper currency, moves that have drawn criticism.
