Lorena Wiebes sprinted to victory on Sunday, August 2nd, 2026, winning the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes after a 147.9-kilometre race from Aigle to Geneva, Switzerland. This win marks her second consecutive stage victory, following her triumph in the opening stage on Saturday, and her seventh overall Tour de France stage win.

Wiebes, riding for Team SD Worx-Protime, broke away from the pack with about 250 metres remaining and crossed the finish line well ahead of her rivals. Italian Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) finished second, with Dutch veteran Marianne Vos in third.

The 27-year-old two-time former European champion now leads the overall standings by 14 seconds over Kimberley Le Court of Mauritius, with 2023 champion Demi Vollering trailing by an additional two seconds in third place. Wiebes earned a 10-second time bonus for her stage win and wore the yellow jersey for the first time during this victory.

Wiebes commented on her performance, saying, "I knew that it was up to me to find my own way. I found some good wheels and I could come out I think around 200 metres to go and then I just could launch my sprint." She also noted the importance of her team’s effort: "Winning in yellow makes it for sure special but also because, again, our team worked really hard for it."

Dutch time-trial specialist Riejanne Markus led solo in the final kilometres but was caught less than 500 metres from the finish. The peloton is set to enter France on Monday, August 3rd, for the third stage, which includes a steep 11-kilometre climb near Geneva and finishes with a flat 15-kilometre stretch to Poligny.

The nine-day race covers a total of 1,175 kilometres, with key stages including an individual time trial on Tuesday and a challenging climb up Mont Ventoux on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the men's Tour de France, Tadej Pogacar secured his fifth title last weekend.

Amanda Spratt is the leading Australian in the women's race, currently placed 68th, 3 minutes and 20 seconds behind Wiebes.
