Kansas held primary elections on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, as Republicans seek to flip the governor’s seat currently held by Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, who is term limited and cannot run for reelection.
President Donald Trump endorsed state Senate President Ty Masterson in the GOP primary to replace Kelly. Other Republican candidates competing for the nomination include Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab and state Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt.
On the Democratic side, candidates vying for the nomination include Cindy Holscher, Ethan Corson, and Overland Park Mayor Curt Skoog.
The primaries are a critical step toward determining who will compete in the general election this fall for the Kansas governor’s mansion.
