Max Miller, a Republican congressman from Ohio, is facing increasing calls from his own party to resign following domestic abuse allegations. The pressure intensified after Bernie Moreno, a GOP senator and Miller’s ex-father-in-law, publicly stated that Miller is unfit to serve in Congress. Moreno, an ally of former President Donald Trump, said, “If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives.”

The allegations include claims of abuse against Miller’s former wife, Emily Moreno, and their toddler daughter, born in 2023, who is reported to have suffered a broken collarbone allegedly due to Miller’s actions. Moreno broke his silence on Sunday after months of refraining from comment.

Miller has denied the accusations, posting a livestream video defending himself and attributing his former wife’s behavior to “significant mental-health challenges.”

The situation has also drawn concern from Republican leadership. Axios reported that Donald Trump called Miller on Monday, warning him that “things aren’t looking good” for his re-election campaign against Democratic opponent Brian Poindexter. Miller responded that he has internal polling showing a nine-point lead but acknowledged the race would be difficult.

With a looming deadline for party leaders to select a potential replacement candidate, Miller’s future in the race remains uncertain. If he withdraws, the party would need to replace him by August 10, with two days’ notice required to hold a meeting for choosing a substitute.

West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito commented on the matter, stating, “I don’t know [Miller].”
