Steve Bannon, former strategist for Donald Trump, urged Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to run against Democratic Senator John Fetterman for a Pennsylvania Senate seat if Fetterman does not switch parties. Bannon made the appeal on his “War Room” program, stating, “Do it … But Aaron Rodgers will take you down in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”

Bannon also expressed strong criticism of Republican Majority Leader John Thune, dismissing him in crude terms while praising Rodgers as a fighter. He said, “What do you think we would do in the United States Senate if we had a guy like Aaron Rodgers and not John Thune? John Thune’s a pencil-necked pussy. Aaron Rodgers is a man.”

John Fetterman has reportedly diverged from Democratic orthodoxy on several issues, including immigration. Rodgers, who grew up in California, purchased a mansion outside Pittsburgh after signing a one-year contract with the Steelers in 2025. The 42-year-old four-time NFL MVP later extended his contract for an additional year but has indicated the 2026 season will be his last, according to ESPN.

Rodgers was also vetted as a potential running mate by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during his 2024 presidential campaign.
