Taiwan is set to commence its annual Han Kuang defense drills aimed at evaluating its preparedness against a potential Chinese invasion. This year’s exercises introduce new elements, including a test of public response to restricted internet connectivity, marking the first time authorities will throttle internet access during the drills.

The military will also incorporate U.S.-style rehearsal techniques to improve operational effectiveness. A CM-34 Clouded Leopard infantry vehicle was seen rolling through Taipei during last year’s Han Kuang exercises on July 15, 2025, illustrating the scale and seriousness of the drills.

These measures reflect Taiwan’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities amid regional tensions.
