The Trump administration is accused of deliberately targeting unaccompanied immigrant children for rapid deportation to the countries they fled, according to a federal lawsuit filed on August 5, 2026. The complaint, brought before the US district court for the eastern district of Pennsylvania by Jewish Family and Community Services of Pittsburgh (JFCS) on behalf of six immigrant clients, alleges that children are being repatriated to increase deportation numbers despite many qualifying to remain legally in the US.

The lawsuit details "drastic policy changes" in immigration courts, including accelerated hearings and instructions to judges not to allow children sufficient time for their immigration applications to be processed by federal agencies. It states, "Hearings are advanced on days’ notice, juvenile dockets compressed to biweekly appearances; and on information and belief, judges who afford children time are penalized." The court reportedly intends to complete the juvenile docket by November 2026.

Among the plaintiffs is a 19-year-old client from Vietnam, identified as KTN, who fled severe and repeated physical abuse by his father and is now in Pennsylvania. By July 2026, the organization said similar treatment was occurring to children who had survived trafficking.

The lawsuit names the Department of Justice, which oversees immigration courts, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) as defendants.

In response, a statement from the Trump administration and DHS said, "President Trump and DHS are laser-focused on protecting children and will continue to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement to reunite children with their families. All illegal aliens receive due process."
