Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville told Fox News Digital on Thursday, August 6th, 2026, that there is only one unlikely scenario where he would consider joining the Republican Party. He said that if "Democrats went crazy and the Republicans went sane," then he probably would become a Republican. However, Carville added, "But I don't see any evidence that there's any possibility that the latter could happen."

When posed with a hypothetical where Republicans adopted the policies of former President Bill Clinton from the 1990s and the Democratic Party fully embraced socialism, Carville called it "a fantasy" and compared it to the chance of flying to the moon.

Carville expressed confidence that Democratic primary voters would determine the party's direction, stating, "I think it's more likely than not that the Democrats embrace sanity."

Carville also addressed his opposition to far-left figures within the Democratic Party, specifically mentioning Hasan Piker, known for controversial rhetoric including a past statement that "America deserved 9/11." Carville said on Fox News' "The Sunday Briefing," "I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker. If he becomes a force in a Democratic Party, I'm out of here."

In response, Piker noted in a recent video appearance with El-Sayed that "Now James Carville is talking about leaving the party."

Carville concluded by saying he would let Democratic voters decide the party's future, but if it moved in a direction he opposed, "then I'm going to be 82, OK, fine, go ahead, but not with me."
