Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville told Fox News Digital on Thursday, August 6th, 2026, that there is only one unlikely scenario in which he would consider joining the Republican Party. Carville explained that if "Democrats went crazy and the Republicans went sane," then he probably would become a Republican. However, he added, "But I don't see any evidence that there's any possibility that the latter could happen."

Asked about a hypothetical where Republicans adopted the policies of former President Bill Clinton from the 1990s while the Democratic Party fully embraced socialism, Carville called it "a fantasy, OK," comparing it to the chance of flying to the moon.

Carville expressed confidence that Democratic primary voters will determine the party's direction and said, "I think it's more likely than not that the Democrats embrace sanity."

He also addressed the rising influence of far-left commentator Hasan Piker within the Democratic Party, stating on Fox News' "The Sunday Briefing," "I am not going to be in the same party with Hasan Piker. If he becomes a force in a Democratic Party, I'm out of here."

Piker, known for controversial far-left rhetoric including a past statement that "America deserved 9/11," later clarified in an interview that he did not mean the attacks were deserved and framed the comment as a critique of U.S. foreign policy. Piker responded to Carville's remarks by saying, "Now James Carville is talking about leaving the party," during a recent video appearance with El-Sayed.

Carville concluded, "I'm going to let Democratic voters determine the direction that party goes in, and if it goes in the direction — which I'm pretty confident it won't — but if it goes in that direction, then I'm going to be 82, OK, fine, go ahead, but not with me."
