SINGAPORE — A 22-year-old man is set to be charged on Saturday, August 8, 2026, with several offences including causing death by driving without due care and attention, driving under the influence of drugs, and other suspected drug-related offences.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning at about 3:55 a.m. at a petrol station on Upper Changi Road North. According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), while a 69-year-old male pump attendant was about to refuel the vehicle, the man got back into the car and reversed abruptly with the driver's side door open. The open door struck the attendant, causing him to fall and hit his head.

The attendant was unconscious when taken to hospital and died the following day. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled with a female passenger. Both were arrested on Thursday after authorities identified them through ground enquiries and police camera and CCTV footage.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the car was deregistered and the man did not have a valid driving licence. The police highlighted that deregistered vehicles pose serious dangers as they lack insurance coverage and may not meet safety standards. They also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of deregistered vehicles or unlicensed drivers, noting that risks increase significantly when such vehicles are operated by unlicensed or underaged drivers.
