At least seven people were killed and 23 injured after a 14-year-old boy opened fire at his home and school on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand's capital, on Friday, August 7th, 2026.

The gunman, a student at Debsirin School in Nonthaburi, first killed his grandparents before shooting five teachers at the school. He then took his own life. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters the attacker still had "more than 30 bullets left" when he turned the gun on himself.

Nine of the injured remain in critical condition, according to authorities. Police were deployed during the active shooting, which began just after 10:00 local time (03:00 GMT).

National police chief Gen Kittiratt Phanphet said forensic officers found the gunman's shots to be quite accurate, with several hitting vital spots on the body. The prime minister described the attack as "well prepared" with "clear steps and clear goals."

A female seventh grader, still in school uniform, recounted to the BBC that she was standing in front of her teacher when the woman was shot, saying, "She was talking to me when [the gunman] showed up and shot her." She added, "I thought I'd never see you again," and described escaping by climbing over the school fence with friends amid a cloud of dust and repeated gunfire.

This incident marks the second school shooting in Thailand this year and has renewed pressure on the government to take stronger action on gun control. The prime minister stated the tragedy "shouldn't have happened," emphasizing that "this is why the government do not allow [citizens] to possess firearms."
