LIV Golf hosted its New York event on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at President Donald Trump’s National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey. This marked the third time the upstart golf tour held an event at one of Trump's golf clubs.
President Trump was present at the event and received a big ovation from spectators as he drove a golf cart along the course, according to The New York Post.
Earlier in April, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which had been a major backer of LIV Golf, announced it would no longer fund the tour. Despite this, LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil announced this week that the tour has secured an as-yet-unnamed lead investor. O'Neil stated, "LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League’s next era, driven by and for the players."
The event and recent developments highlight LIV Golf's efforts to sustain its operations and growth amid changes in its financial backing.
