Some of Taylor Swift’s songs have been removed from videos posted on social media by Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House, ending efforts to mock the singer. A video posted on August 3 featuring the US president and first lady Melania Trump watching fireworks was shared on TikTok with Swift’s song "August." The post included the text, “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song! #taylorswift #maga #august.”

Trump’s campaign also published a post ridiculing Swift over her 2012 album "Red," stating, “Did you know Taylor Swift wrote a whole album about the color of the Republican party?” and suggesting parody track titles. Several other campaign videos that used Swift’s music have since had their sound removed.

Trump-related social media accounts have used songs from various pop stars, including Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and Kenny Loggins, often as rage bait. All these artists publicly objected to the use of their music. Ariana Grande, for example, posted, “Please do not use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense,” after the White House used her music over a montage of ICE agents detaining people.

Trump had previously attacked Swift, who endorsed then-Democratic vice-president Kamala Harris during the 2024 election, declaring, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Swift’s Eras tour is noted as the highest-grossing tour of all time, generating about $2.2 billion worldwide, according to Pollstar.
