A Hong Kong magistrate acquitted former auxiliary police officer Adnan Mohammad of assaulting his wife, Shazia Parveen, at their home last year. Magistrate Claudia Ng Cheuk-hwa ruled Mohammad not guilty of one count of common assault on Thursday, August 13, 2026, citing contradictions in Parveen’s testimony.
Parveen testified that Mohammad hit her arms and pushed her onto a sofa during an argument over childcare at their Wong Tai Sin flat on July 20, 2025. She said she had asked him to care for their crying baby, but he refused. Initially, Parveen stated that no one else was present during the alleged assault, but later admitted that Mohammad’s brother had been sleeping in the flat.
Magistrate Ng noted that Parveen’s evidence was contradictory and that she had not told the “whole truth.” Parveen had come to Hong Kong from Pakistan in 2024, two years after marrying Mohammad.
The court’s decision highlights the importance of consistent testimony in assault cases.
