A Berlin court sentenced a 41-year-old German palliative care doctor, identified only as Johannes M., to life in prison for the murder of 15 people. The killings involved 12 women and three men during home visits between September 2021 and July 2024. Prosecutors stated during the trial that the doctor is suspected of having killed more than 70 other individuals.
Presiding judge Sylvia Busch described the case as "unfathomable" and "extraordinary," calling the convicted man a "serial killer." She also noted that the conviction for 15 murders might represent only a fraction of his crimes. Johannes M. was detained in 2024 and remains under investigation for additional killings.
