PROVO, UtahDNA from Tyler Robinson, 23, and his former lover and roommate Lance Twiggs was allegedly found on a towel and screwdriver recovered during the investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk. The towel was reportedly used to conceal the suspected murder weapon near Utah Valley University on September 10, 2026, the day Kirk was fatally shot during a Turning Point USA event at the school.

During a preliminary hearing at the Fourth Judicial District Courthouse in Provo on July 6, 2026, prosecutors presented surveillance video showing Robinson moving around campus before and after the shooting, including footage of him arriving and leaving in his Dodge Challenger. The suspected murder weapon had been retrofitted to fire .30-06 rounds, matching bullet fragments recovered during Kirk's autopsy.

Family members of Charlie Kirk, including Kirk and Kathryn Kirk, as well as Tyler Robinson's parents, Matt and Amber Robinson, were present at the hearing. Authorities indicated there is a strong likelihood the state will establish probable cause against Robinson.

Notable remarks during the hearing included that establishing probable cause was "beyond the scope of determining probable cause" and that "barring the prosecutor somehow forgetting how to get to the courthouse, there's no realistic chance the state fails to establish probable cause."
