Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the newest installment in Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man franchise starring Tom Holland, earned an impressive US$355 million (S$454.8 million) during its North American debut on Sunday, August 2, 2026. This opening marks the second-biggest domestic box office launch in history, trailing only behind Avengers: Endgame's US$357 million debut in 2019, according to Box Office Mojo.
The film also features Zendaya, who is Holland's wife, alongside Mark Ruffalo, Florence Pugh, and Sadie Sink. It follows Peter Parker as he lives in isolation after erasing his identity from the world, facing personal transformation and new threats.
Analyst David A Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research described the opening as "colossal," noting the summer had lacked a major action title for nine weeks prior, which is considered a long gap for the box office.
Internationally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day earned an additional US$573 million, bringing its global total to a staggering US$928 million, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations. Gross highlighted that overseas business accounts for more than 60% of the worldwide total, with particularly positive reports coming from China, which is currently a rare occurrence.
Gross also commented on the broader box office landscape, stating, "The combination of Spider-Man and The Odyssey – a legacy superhero sequel and a big original production – is taking the box office to new highs by a comfortable margin."
The Odyssey, a Universal film starring Matt Damon, is based on Homer's ancient epic and chronicles the hero Odysseus's journey home from the Trojan War.
