An armed man, Jeanine John Taele, 38, was arrested on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at President Donald Trump’s golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, two days before the president’s scheduled fundraising dinner hosted by the Republican National Committee (RNC).

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, plainclothes federal agents observed Taele walking throughout the golf course grounds, taking photographs and videos, and appearing to monitor security-planning activities. Deputies recovered a 16-round magazine containing hollow-point ammunition from his pants pocket during his detention.

Law enforcement searched Taele’s home in nearby Downey on Monday, August 3, where they found an assault-style rifle, a pistol, a bulletproof vest, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, two radios, and multiple notebooks containing concerning statements. The sheriff's department did not specify the nature of these statements or whether Taele was planning an attack.

Taele has been charged with several felonies, including second-degree robbery, receiving a large-capacity magazine, and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun. He also faces a misdemeanor charge for carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered to stay away from the golf course and not possess weapons.

The sheriff's department noted that Taele was under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department for robbery. Officials stated there is no credible threat to the community.

The arrest occurred as President Trump arrived by helicopter at the golf club on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, to attend the fundraising dinner. Hours before Trump's arrival, California Governor Gavin Newsom urged the president to release federal reconstruction funding for communities devastated by recent Los Angeles wildfires.

This incident follows previous security concerns involving Trump, including an attempted attack at a 2024 campaign rally and an armed man trying to enter a Washington reception earlier in 2026.
