Murphy emphasized that Americans are suffering due to the conflict and that the cost to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz "increases by the day."

Murphy acknowledged that Iran has outmaneuvered the U.S. in the conflict. He said, “Yes, I will support a deal to end this war and reopen the strait,” adding that the only deal currently available is a "terrible, bad deal."

Last week, Trump administration officials expressed optimism about reaching a breakthrough with Iran regarding the operation of the Strait of Hormuz, which could pave the way for nuclear talks to end the war permanently. However, Iranian officials complicated the situation by setting preconditions for reopening the strait, including demands for the U.S. to lift its blockade of Iranian ports, pay war damages, unfreeze Iranian assets, lift sanctions on Tehran, and end its military operations.

Murphy stressed the urgency of ending the war, stating, “The war needs to end because every day that the war continues, America gets weaker, Iran gets stronger, and people here in the United States get screwed, as prices go up, and up, and up.”

While Murphy said he will continue to vote to end the war, he also indicated support for replenishing military munitions depleted by the conflict once the war concludes. He clarified, “I am not going to support funding to keep this war going. But if the war comes to an end, if the president ends this war, then, yes, of course, I and my colleagues will be ready to provide the funding to replenish the stores of munitions that have been spent.”
