He criticized Iran for having outmaneuvered the U.S. and noted that Iranian officials recently complicated negotiations by setting preconditions for reopening the strait. These demands include lifting the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, paying war damages, unfreezing Iranian assets, lifting sanctions on Tehran, and ending U.S. military operations.

Trump administration officials expressed optimism last week about a breakthrough with Iran regarding the strait's operation, potentially paving the way for nuclear talks to permanently end the war.

Murphy emphasized the urgency to end the conflict, stating, "The war needs to end because every day that the war continues, America gets weaker, Iran gets stronger, and people here in the United States get screwed, as prices go up, and up, and up."

While Murphy affirmed he will continue to vote to end the war, he also expressed willingness to support efforts to replenish military munitions depleted by the conflict. He clarified, "I am not going to support funding to keep this war going. But if the war comes to an end, if the president ends this war, then, yes, of course, I and my colleagues will be ready to provide the funding to replenish the stores of munitions that have been spent."
