Murphy acknowledged that Iran has outmaneuvered the U.S. administration and expressed readiness to back any deal that ends the war and reopens the strait, despite its shortcomings. He said, “Yes, I will support a deal to end this war and reopen the strait,” adding, “I am prepared to support a bad deal, to end this war and reopen the strait, because the only deal that is available, at this point in time, is a terrible, bad deal.”

Last week, Trump administration officials expressed optimism about a breakthrough with Iran regarding the operation of the strait, potentially paving the way for nuclear talks to permanently end the war. However, Iranian officials complicated the situation by outlining preconditions for reopening the strait, including lifting the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, paying war damages, unfreezing Iranian assets, lifting sanctions on Tehran, and ending the U.S. military operation.

Murphy highlighted the urgency of ending the war, stating, “The war needs to end because every day that the war continues, America gets weaker, Iran gets stronger, and people here in the United States get screwed, as prices go up, and up, and up.”

While committed to voting to end the war, Murphy also indicated support for replenishing military munitions depleted by the conflict once the war concludes. He clarified, “I am not going to support funding to keep this war going. But if the war comes to an end, if the president ends this war, then, yes, of course, I and my colleagues will be ready to provide the funding to replenish the stores of munitions that have been spent.”
