Some of Taylor Swift’s songs have been removed from videos posted on social media by Donald Trump’s campaign and the White House, effectively silencing attempts to mock the singer.

A video posted on August 3rd, showing the US president and first lady Melania Trump watching fireworks, was shared on TikTok with Swift’s song "August." The post included the text, “I’m sure @Taylor Swift is going to be super excited we used her song! #taylorswift #maga #august.”

Trump’s campaign also published a post mocking Swift over her 2012 album "Red," stating, “Did you know Taylor Swift wrote a whole album about the color of the Republican party?” and suggesting parody track titles.

Other Trump-related social media accounts have used Swift’s music in campaign videos, many of which now no longer have sound.

These posts are part of a broader pattern where Trump’s social media accounts use songs by pop stars such as Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and Kenny Loggins as "rage bait." All these artists have publicly objected to the use of their music. For example, Ariana Grande posted, “Please do not use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense,” after the White House used her music over a montage of ICE agents detaining people.

Trump had previously attacked Swift, who endorsed then Democratic vice-president Kamala Harris during the 2024 election, declaring, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” at the time.

According to Pollstar, Swift’s Eras tour is the highest-grossing tour of all time, generating about $2.2 billion worldwide.
