BENGALURU — India has launched a 72.8 billion rupee ($764.8 million) initiative aimed at establishing a rare-earth magnet industry, attracting numerous bids from both domestic and international firms.
The program emphasizes the development of smaller, vertically integrated production plants supported by time-limited subsidies. However, some companies involved have expressed concerns about whether this approach can effectively compete with established global players, particularly given China's dominant position in the sector.
One notable project includes a rare earth magnet production facility being developed by N.A.N. MagneTech in the Naidupeta Industrial Park located in Andhra Pradesh.
The initiative reflects India's broader industrial ambitions but faces scrutiny over its strategy favoring smaller-scale plants rather than large-scale specialization.
