Marty O'Donnell, the Grammy-nominated composer known for his work on the "Halo" video game series and a Republican congressional candidate, revealed that he was disinvited from a reunion event with fellow Halo creators at SacAnime. The event was scheduled for next month as part of the Halo 25 celebration.

On Tuesday, O'Donnell shared a screenshot of an email from his event booker stating that the promoter for SacAnime informed them that LGBTQ staff members felt uncomfortable with his attendance. The invitation was rescinded to avoid further staff upset, reportedly due to statements O'Donnell made during his political campaign.

O'Donnell expressed his disappointment on Twitter, saying, "I’m very disappointed that SacAnime has disinvited me from a Halo 25 reunion at their conference next month. If you thought we defeated Cancel Culture in 2024, guess again!"

He further explained that the disinvitation followed numerous announcements of his attendance over the weekend. He was told it was because he called Marxism an existential threat. O'Donnell commented on The WDW Pro Show, "Talk about an existential threat, this is where we are right now."

The controversy arose after a podcast appearance during his campaign, which led to objections from SacAnime's LGBTQ staff. Following the decision, SacAnime removed O'Donnell from their website and deleted social media posts promoting his appearance.

O'Donnell's case highlights ongoing tensions around political expression and event participation within pop culture communities.
