PROVO, Utah — During a preliminary hearing at the Fourth District Courthouse in Provo, Utah, Lance Twiggs, the reported romantic partner and roommate of Tyler Robinson, who is accused of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk, provided video testimony to prosecutors.
In the video, Twiggs told investigators that Robinson "wishes he hadn't done it," stating, "I just asked him in person if what he said was true the night before, and he said it was, started crying a little bit and said he wishes he hadn't done it."
Prosecutors also presented text messages exchanged between Robinson and Twiggs from the night before the shooting, in which Robinson allegedly took credit for the attack on Kirk. During the hearing, Twiggs said he woke up around noon to 1 p.m. on the day of the shooting, a statement that elicited scoffs from members of Kirk's family in the courtroom.
The hearing included the display of a photograph showing the text message exchange between Robinson and Twiggs. The case continues to unfold as the court reviews evidence related to the fatal shooting.
Notable quotes from the hearing include:
- "I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it," attributed to Robinson in the text messages.
- "I am still ok my love, but am stuck in orem for a little while longer yet," from one of the messages.
- "Shouldn’t be long until I can come home, but I gotta grab my rifle still. To be honest I had hoped to keep this secret till I died of old age. I am sorry to involve you."
- "You weren’t the one who did it right????"
The hearing took place on July 9, 2026, with the video testimony played in court on July 10, 2026.
