A 72-year-old Singaporean man who was kidnapped in Malaysia has been rescued, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) announced on Monday, August 10, 2026. The man was successfully rescued by the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) on Friday, August 7, in the state of Kedah.

The man had travelled alone to Malaysia on July 26, 2026. His family raised the alarm after receiving information on August 4 indicating that he may have been kidnapped and that a ransom had been demanded for his release. Following this, the SPF immediately sought assistance from their Malaysian counterparts and shared relevant information.

The RMP mounted operations that led to the man's rescue, with the SPF supporting the investigative efforts from Singapore and providing support to the man's next-of-kin.

Preliminary investigations by the Royal Malaysia Police suggest that the suspects used social media and online platforms such as Telegram, WeChat, and Badoo to establish contact with potential victims.

Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Julius Lim, director of the Criminal Investigation Department, expressed appreciation for the RMP's swift action and close cooperation. He stated, "This operation is a reflection of the strong and longstanding partnership between the SPF and RMP, and our shared commitment to keep our communities safe."
